Get out of my head!

Damn it!!!

I’m sorry for my outburst.

I have had the same song stuck in my head for days. I’m not sure how it got into my head in the first place. Maybe I was surfing the net and it was the music on a site, or maybe a tv commercial or some “This Preview Has Been Approved For All Audiences” trailer for a film.

Did you ever get a song stuck in your head?

Well, obviously everyone has had a song stuck in their head. I mean really planted in there with roots that seem to wrap around your spine. And it is usually the most frustrating song to listen to. Like the one time I went to my cousin’s wedding reception and I had the “Chicken Dance” in my head for 4 days. I was exhausted by the time I got it out of my head….I watched 6 straight hours of “Family Guy” on DVD to blast that one out.

Not too long ago I had the “F-ing Ben Affleck” song in my head for around 6 days. I was desperate to get it out of my head. My eyes were blurry, my neck was in knots, my brain hurt with headaches that mysteriously popped up and lasted until I ingested more Ibuprofen in one swallow than is recommended in a 48 hour period. It was horrible and I have no idea how that one got outta my head. I am just grateful that it is gone.

It is completely random, too. I’ve talked to people about it. My boss often says that she has “Kung Fu Fighting” stuck in her head (I shall not comment on that for obvious reasons…thank you for your understanding). An older co-worker on the “Private Summer” (menopause) side of the building swears that every spring she gets “On The Way To Cape May” firmly embedded in her mind.

I have heard such tragic stories. Like one guy going to a Yankees game and coming back with the National Anthem stuck in the old noggin. Of course, I had no sympathy for him. After all, if you go to all the trouble of going to the Yankees game to get a song stuck in your head, at least you could bring me. Yeah….don’t talk to him anymore.

Anyway, I’ve heard everything from “Do your ears hang low” to “Ave Maria”. Wow. What wide ranging musical tastes. Gregorian Chants….Lil Kim…The Beatles….Green Day….you name it….it gets stuck.

One thing that is guaranteed - I will never get a song stuck in my head that I can actually benefit from. No romantic interludes spilling out of the folds of my mind. Nope. All of my music is akin to the background music in musical chairs.

My all time least favorite music to get stuck in my head is TV Theme music. Doesn’t make a difference if you like the music or not. There is a limit to the theme from the Golden Girls. Or “Cheers”. And if I get the Love Boat or Gilligan’s Island theme stuck in my head one more time…well, I have no idea what I would do.

It’s inconvenient to walk around with a vise on my head. And plunging my head into ice water will only pucker my ear lobes. I am certain that the music will still be there. Perhaps a mountain top or deserted island (to risky…might find Gilligan).

I always wanted to live in a huge house with weird stuff in it. Kinda haunted looking and….

Damn.

Now I have the Addams Family Theme in my head.
